Who we are

More than 30 years of load-ins. That's the honest version of our history — no founding date on a plaque, just three decades of shows that opened on time.

Deep South Productions is a full-service live event production company built to execute. We own the audio, lighting, LED video, staging and mobile stage inventory. We run the trucks. We staff the crews. When you book us, one company is accountable from the site survey to the last truck off the lot.

Home base is Sulphur, Louisiana — Lake Charles area — with locations in Houston and New Orleans. We work across the United States and into Canada with our own fleet.

In 2022, PLSN named us Regional Lighting Company of the Year at the Parnelli Awards.

The owner

Marvin Simon

Marvin Simon started what became Deep South Productions with a pair of speakers and a cargo trailer. He was DJing in high school in the Lake Charles area — wedding receptions on Friday, nightclubs on Saturday — and he marketed it the hard way: business cards handed out at the gates of McNeese State football games, his logo on the trailer, driving traffic at rush hour so people would see the name.

The sound work followed the DJ work. A nightclub needed concert audio, Marvin bought a system to cover the dates, and that turned into real shows — then into a casino contract Deep South still holds decades later. That account set the standard the company still runs on: the rig gets built and tested at our own shop, so show day is load-in and doors, not troubleshooting.

Everything since has been the same pattern at a larger scale — audio into lighting, LED video, staging, mobile stages and a fleet of our own trucks, with crews working across the United States and into Canada. Marvin still owns the company and is still the final word on how work gets delivered.

He also still has some of the first speakers he ever bought. He won't part with them — they're the history.
