We build shows. Festival main stages, corporate general sessions, arena loads, mobile stage drops in a parking lot that becomes a venue for a weekend. All of it runs on people who know what they're doing and show up when they said they would.
Deep South Productions is a full-service live event production company based in Sulphur, Louisiana, working across the United States and into Canada. We own our audio, lighting, LED video and staging inventory, we run our own fleet, and we staff our own crews. That last part is why this page exists. Gear is the easy half. Crew is the half that decides whether a show goes up clean.
We hire two ways.
Full-time.
Salaried and hourly staff out of our Sulphur headquarters — warehouse, shop, road, and production office.
Freelance.
A standing bench of contract technicians and hands we call for specific shows, tours, and festival seasons — locally, regionally, and on the road.
If you're qualified, we want you in the system before we need you. The call usually comes on short notice.
What the work is actually like
The range is wide, and that's the point. In one month a tech here might do a multi-day outdoor festival, a ballroom general session, a casino showroom night, and a load-out that finishes at three in the morning. The scale changes constantly. A six-semi festival build and a single box-truck corporate job need different instincts, and good people here learn both.
The gear is current and it's maintained: d&b audiotechnik SL-series line array, DiGiCo consoles, a deep LED wall inventory in 3.9mm to 5.9mm pitch, Tyler GT box truss, a large stage deck package, two mobile stages. There's a maintenance shop on site and a prep process before anything leaves the building. If you've worked places where you spend show day fighting the rig instead of running it, this is different.
Days are long and travel is real. Hours are event hours, not office hours. That's the trade, and we'd rather say it plainly here than surprise you in week two.
What we ask is consistent across every job: be on time, be prepared, be safe, and be someone a client would be comfortable talking to. Our crews are in front of promoters, venue staff, tour management and the public. How a crew carries itself is part of the product.
Disciplines we hire
Audio
System engineers, FOH and monitor engineers, A2s, patch and stage techs. Line array deployment and prediction software, digital consoles, RF coordination and playback experience move an application to the top.
Lighting
Lighting technicians, board operators, and programmers. Console fluency, fixture troubleshooting, data and power distribution, and the ability to work from a plot.
Video and LED
LED wall techs, camera operators, video engineers, switching and playback operators, processing and content-server experience.
Rigging
Riggers who work to spec and know when a job needs a specialist. We self-perform limited, safe rigging applications and coordinate qualified specialists for larger structural and arena work. Certification matters here.
Stagehands and carpenters
Deck build, truss assembly, barricade, push and load crews, hands who can work a truck pack correctly the first time.
Drivers
CDL Class A drivers for semis, step deck, RGN and flatbed work, plus box truck drivers. Clean record, comfortable with production schedules and multi-stop tours.
Warehouse and prep techs
Pull and prep, cable and case management, inventory, maintenance and repair. This is where a lot of our best road techs started.
Project and production managers
Advance, technical design, budgeting, scheduling, crew and logistics coordination, on-site management. Live production background required.
Join the freelance network
Most of our freelance relationships start with a five-minute registration, not a resume sent into a void. Register once and you're in the roster we search when a show needs people.

Once you're registered, a production manager will reach out when a date fits your skills and availability. Keep your profile current — availability is the single biggest factor in who gets called.
Travel expectations
Home base is Sulphur, in the Lake Charles area, and a good share of our work is within a day's drive: Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Bossier City, Dallas. Beyond that we work nationally and into Canada, and touring support means multi-week runs away from home.
Travel varies by role. Warehouse and prep positions are primarily local. Road techs, drivers and touring crew should expect to be out regularly, sometimes on short notice. For travel dates we handle transportation, lodging and per diem as part of the engagement.
Safety and professionalism
Live events put heavy equipment over people's heads on a deadline. We treat that seriously.
We expect crew to work to the load plan, use fall protection where required, follow lift and lockout procedures, and stop work and speak up when something looks wrong. Nobody here gets in trouble for stopping a lift. People get in trouble for continuing one they weren't sure about.
Professionalism is the other half: blacks or crew shirts, no impairment on site, phones away during show calls, respect for venue rules and union jurisdictions where they apply, and a civil tone with everyone on the site.

Do I need experience to get hired as a stagehand?
Not always. Stagehand, push crew and warehouse prep are the realistic entry points, and they're where most of our technicians started. Show up on time, work safe, and pay attention, and you'll get called back. Technical positions require demonstrable experience.
How do freelancers get paid?
Freelancers are engaged as independent contractors on a per-show or per-run basis, with rate, call time and scope agreed before the date. Travel dates include lodging and per diem arrangements.
Do you hire crew outside of Louisiana?
Yes. We work nationally and into Canada, and we maintain freelance contacts in the markets where we work regularly. Tell us the markets you can work when you register.
What certifications should I have?
It depends on the discipline. Rigging positions require current rigging certification. Driving positions require a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements. Aerial lift, OSHA and first aid credentials strengthen any application. List everything you hold — we'd rather know.
How much travel is involved?
Warehouse and prep roles are mostly local. Road and touring roles travel regularly, including multi-week runs, and we'll tell you which a role is before you accept it.
